Second, make sure you arm yourself with accurate information. Do the research. Choose the right nutrition and fitness regimen combo that appeals to you the most and stick to it! That is also the last key – sticking to the regimen you’ve chosen and don’t quit!

Like I said, I’ve been through this myself. In a span of two months, I was able to shed off thirty pounds! Yes, it was frustrating to see my weight go up and down but I stuck through it. Checking your weight regularly, however, I just one way to measure progress. I will talk about the importance of tracking your progress in greater detail in a later article.

It was a “hit or miss” for me, trying many different things like – following exercise DVDs and working out at home; enrolling for classes I like – belly dancing and hip hop, which I enjoyed a lot; and finally, finding the courage to go to the gym, while reading tons of resources online and trying out different diets. I tried everything I could get my hands on. I was determined. I want to wear nice clothes that looked good on me as it did on the mannequin. I’ve been overweight and felt miserable long enough. Time to get my act together and start to feel good about myself again. 1. Reverse that Food Pyramid!

If you take a look at the current USDA Food Pyramid, it actually recommends that you consume 4-8 servings of whole grains everyday! That’s a lot of grains! But, considering the source of this recommendation, the US Department of Agriculture, we shouldn’t be surprised at all. The USDA actually recommends that you eat more bread than fruits, lean meats and healthy fats. Mike recommends that you consider the following breakdown instead:

40% of calories from healthy fats 30% of calories from protein 30% of calories from carbohydrates

I followed Mike’s recommendation and I can see the difference in my belly! I maintained a balanced healthy diet for a long time and the one-day I told myself that I deserved the treat, I immediately saw the effect on my belly and my overall feeling. It’s amazing to see what damage two slices of bread can do! I felt bloated right away and the belly I’ve been working so hard on to get flat and firm, all of a sudden became flabbier and heavier! I learned my lesson!

2. Discard the sodas, including he diet ones!

If I have to explain to you, then we have a bigger problem than I thought. I know it’s not easy, but the bottom line is just stop. Sodas, diet or otherwise, is not good for you. You’re only making it worse with the diet sodas for they contain harmful chemicals like aspartame, that do more damage to your body, so just stop. If you can’t quit right away, do it gradually. If you feel you have a craving to drink soda, brush your teeth, gargle and drink water, it will take away that sugar craving. It’s not “hunger,” it is just a “craving.” Mike’s recommendation is to drink a quart of water per 50 pounds of body weight. Therefore, someone who weighs 150 pounds should drink at least 3 quarts of water a day! I’ve experimented on this myself and it works! I still do it! Not only is it away to reduce weight, but it is the healthiest thing to drink because it also cleanses your body.

3. Ditch the Starch!

Foods high in starch like rice, potatoes, cereals and oats though generally considered “health foods” can also add more fat to your stomach fat if you don’t keep it in control. This system allows you to eat starches including sweets many days a week and still take off the excess fat. It’s all about timing. 4. Only Raw Foods in the Evening!

Raw veggies with your last meal and as a snack will really help your fatburning along. Mike started with red peppers because they are sweet. He says that the fat loss is well worth it.

However, if you really feel an attack of hunger in the evening, Mike recommends snacking on boiled eggs and raw veggies. I will talk more in a future article on the difference between “hunger” and “craving.” Chances are if you get “hungry” at night, it is not really “hunger,” but only a craving. If you really want to lose weight, it is important to make the distinction between the two. There are healthier alternatives for snacks that you can choose from if you really get hungry before bedtime. However, if you are really serious about losing weight and getting a toned stomach and overall toned body, you have to make the commitment right now.

5. Keep a record of your progress!
